JOE WARFEL,
as a naturalist/photographer, specializes in close-up macro images of the
common and uncommon subjects all around us but not always seen. Whether
near his home in the Northeast, or traveling in the southwestern desert,
rainforest of Peru or Costa Rica, Joe finds there is always the same potential
for discovering a wide range of interesting subjects. When the opportunity
presents itself, he also photographs the rest of the natural world, concentrating
mostly on wildlife, from moose to mites.
Maintaining memberships in professional and
scientific societies dedicated to research and understanding of his subjects
aids Joe in his pursuit of nature photography.
Images have been published in National Audubon
Regional Field Guides (New England and California); National Audubon First
Guides: Insects; Appalachian Mountain Club Journal; Wildlife conservation
magazine; scientific journals; textbooks; posters; non-fiction books and
calendars. His work has also been featured in the traveling exhibit "Spiders",
assembled by the Smithsonian and the National Natural History Museum, which
has traveled to various science centers and museums around the U.S. and
Canada.
