CHARLES SLEICHER
is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington, Seattle, where
he taught chemical engineering for 30 years after receiving a PH.D.from
the University of Michigan in 1955. He has been interested in natural history
since early childhood and in photography since receiving a Brownie box
camera at the age of 12. However, it was not until he retired in 1991 that
time allowed these two interests to flourish into his current passion of
nature photography. Immediately after retirement he attended a workshop
in photography by Art Wolfe, followed by workshops from John Shaw, Pat
O'Hara, and Joe Englander.
Charles was winner in
the wildlife division of Nature's Best 1998 Annual Photography and his
credits include the Sierra Club Wildlife Calendar, The National Geographic,
and Audubon calender, Sunset magazine, Washington Wildlife, and exhibits
at the University of Washington. His interest in wildlife and scenic photography,
has caused him to travel extensively in the western U.S. plus Alaska, Florida,
Vermont and the Antarctic region.
